Top bridal trends from the Spring 2014 bridal shows in New York.
Spring 2014 Bridal – New Fabrics
Organza, Chantilly Lace, Tulle been there, done that. Spring 2014 Bridal week saw the exiting arrival of a wave of new fabrics: Carolina Herrera wiht hand-painted lace and gold-flecked detailing, Monique Lhuillier’s sherbet ombre and Lazaro sparkle tulle.
Monochrome Bridal Gowns
A fashion classic makes it into the bridal world in chic style. Seen at Vera Wang most predominantly with her architectural and stark designs, we also spotted it on Ivy & Aster’s lovely princess gown with delicate black details underneath a sheer white fabric, and as a black slip underneath a white 1930’s inspired pinafore gown of French floral lace at Elizabeth Fillmore. All very different ways of incorporating a trend, but each undeniably elegant.
The Handkerchief Peplum
This season the pretty waist detail gets a romantic make-over. It has a less angular positioning and sits almost more as a bustle but without the volume. Instead of feeling like a radical, young, hip and somewhat overdone fashion trend this peplum – as seen at Marchesa, Reem Acra, Monique Lhuillier, Carolina Herrera, Watters and Lazaro – is soft, sweet and very, very sophisticated.
Blush Bridal Dresse
The “blushing bride” got a serious overhaul this season with a range of seriously stylish rosy gowns.
Detachable Bridal Gown Trains
The idea of having a second dress without the need to change your gown has grown in popularity once again. This year’s changelings, spotted at Lazaro and Monique Lhuillier allow you to have the drama of a great big gown for the ceremony and something a little more practical come party time.
Dramatic Back Bridal Dresses
Although the front of your dress is important this season’s gowns have wow-backs that will make you want to talk to your guests over your shoulder all night long. Enviable deep V-backs, naked back keyholes and delicate deep scoops make for beautiful gowns.
There’s too many to count – but Temperley’s scooped back, Claire Pettibone’s floral-detailed backs and Vera Wang’s smooth double dips are but a few.
2014 Elegant Wedding Dresses with Sleeves
Sleeves! They are everywhere! Long, short, three-quarters… seriously, everywhere. For an elegant approach look to Grace Kelly and Kate Middleton-inspired lace sleeves spotted at Lazaro, Watters, Marchesa, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera and more. If you are after a more boho-chic style, look to Temperley and Pettibone’s billowing sleeves, Jenny Packham’s romantic embellished tulle short sleeves…
Spring 2014 Bridal Veils
The Return Of The Veil: Veil shapes and sizes vary from Marchesa’s puffy short versions to Carolina’s gold-embellished Cathedral length veils, but all are beyond stunning. Crowns also made an appearance on the catwalk, my favourite was Watters golden Dolce moment. Reem Acra’s brides donned an array of accessories including adorable embroidered headscarves and even veil-draped parasols – the latter is perhaps more of a catwalk piece rather than an aisle item, but still very fabulous.
